Lee Big Stopper

Unfortunately if you want a big stopper at this precise moment then you're going to have to pay a premium for it and buy it on eBay.

I noticed when I started trying to buy one that WEX provided a link to an explanation from Lee Filters as to why filters were in short supply and how they were taking steps to increase production. You still get directed to the same statement now 18 months later. Makes me wonder just how hard Lee are actually trying.

Yeah i know how hard they are but i would rather buy a copy from a shop which is brand new with a receipt than buy off ebay for 1.5 or twice the price.

Are there any shops taking orders without taking the money until the big stopper is available to them and in stock or do they take the money and leave you hanging on?

Amatuer photographer did a group test on them all a few months back and concluded the new Tiffen ND 3.0 which launched in May the winner.

quote
" There was a little warming of the image compared to the control, but the end result was pleasingly neutral. There was also barely any increase in vignetting from the control image that we observed. This is the most well-balanced of the products on test, and if you're looking for a circular filter you won't go far wrong. Definitely recommended"

Its cheaper and readily available, so might be something to think about.

I asked at Calumet on Friday, none in stock but say they can get them, the question is when, £97.00 if it's any help

Robert White is estimating 2-3 months and Speed Graphic estimating it is due 16/08/2013. If it is a preorder don't they usually charge you when it is shipped?

Mine took a month from a well known photo firm in London.
And yes I had to pay and wait until they and Lee were ready to send it to me. It was a bit *****. But if you want one you have two options. Join he queue or over the top prices from eBay.
I did call said firm in London after a month and moan a bit. And then the very same day my big stopper was dispatched.

I had one on backorder at WEX for about 6 weeks, then i got one from Dale Photographic and canceled the one on order from WEX.

I ordered mine from speed graphic, they pre authorise your card but don't take the money until its in stock. Mine was around 6-7 weeks.

I always keep an eye on WEX as they seem to get them in quite often. It seems that as soon as the summer comes around, the sell like hot cakes.

I bought one from them when they had some stock come in earlier than expected last year. I still haven't gotten around to using is as I changed camera and lenses, so now I need a different adapter :D

I'd really recommend for those who don't own one, to buy one the second you see them in stock, even if you're currently not interested in long exposure. It's really annoying to get the itch and have to wait 3-5 months to get one.

Just ordered from Speed Graphic for £98 (ouch!), Teamworks gave a similar date but couldn't guarantee all their allocation wouldn't get swallowed up by existing orders

Expected stock date of 16/08

I'll get saving!
