Hi all,
So, after some time collating equipment, I actually had my first home studio session today taking portrait shots of my beautiful girlfriend.
I ordered a YN flash which didn't arrive in time, so I tried using some £30 LED videography lights bought from Amazon I had ariund the house. (I work as a videographer but am branching out to photography)
I've read lots of posts on here about lighting set ups and have spoken at length with friends about the need for decent lighting in studio shots.... But, I was pleasantly surprised with the LED lights.
I ran them through a shoot through umbrella, and used one as the key light, one as a fill (you can adjust the power of the type I bought) and added in a 3rd when I wanted a back light.
Yes the iso was turned up higher than I would have liked... But, it was in a very dark room anyway, with no natural light filtering through, so I wasn't surprised by this. I was also using a canon 70-200 f4, so the light into the camera wasn't great with that f stop.... I have an old Olympus 50mm f1.4 lens which, using an adapter I tried too... I think the lowest ISO I used was 320.
The only downer was they run on batteries, and they didn't last long! Defo going to get some power adapters.
Anyway, if you're on a budget and want to lights to fill a gap, I would definitely recommend these LED lights.... They're not the best by any means but they'll surprise you!
