Led hot shoe

I've got a Kaiser Starcluster which is essentially the same idea. I use it closer than typical portrait distances (semi-macro) and it's okay for that.
I'm sure it'll eliminate shadows when used at 1-2m but it's not going to replace a flash. I'd also be a little concerned about the shape of any catch lights in the subjects eyes.

Not very bright, I have a 160LED, I found use for it a few weeks back as emergency light mounted on a light stand as we had a backout!

I bought one from Amazon recently. It's OK. I've used it a couple of times to add some extra light to a scene but it's not mega bright.

I'd get the one which has the different plastic inserts to change the colour. By default it's quite cold which isn't always the effect you want.

The plastic leg/hotshoe mount looks very flimsy. But I usually use it hand held anyway.

In short, it's OK for the money but it won't revolutionise your life.

Despite it being not very bright - isn't the important issue the fact that the hotshoe is a crap place to put a light? and that light is designed for off camera macro distances at best. It's not too bad for that.

Most photographers 1st step after buying a flash is how to avoid the look of on-camera lighting, usually in this order:

Bounce the hotshoe mounted flash
Add a diffuser to the bounced hotshoe mounted flash
Take the diffused bounced hotshoe mounted flash off camera
Improve the off camera diffuser
Add another off camera flash
Get bigger more controllable off camera flash.
Get bigger and better diffusers
