Hi guys,

I'm acquiring a safari kit with 2 heads and ringflash.

The ringlash is a totally new modifier, but the heads should behave just like speedlights while I learn them right?

As of right now I have umbrellas and softboxes I want to add grids and a beauty dish as they're modifiers I think I will use a lot.

Mostly want to be using them outside to shoot fashioney images, lots of under exposed backgrounds ect.

Just how do I shoot with a ringflash, I know what it does and how it works but have never used one. I know it makes an epic on axis fill for killing deep shadows but what else does it do?

Not really, they don't have the auto functions (eg TTL of speedlights), they have about 10x the power and they take the full range of S-fit light modifiers, so are really exactly the same as any studio flash except that they are battery powered.

Use it close, because the further away it/you are from the subject, the less 'ringflash effect' you'll get. Personally I often use mine with a 17-35mm lens and try to maintain the same distance for each shot, to maximise the ringflash effect and so that exposure doesn't change (because the distance doesn't change)
but what else does it do?
It makes the perfect fill flash for studio style shots, because it's exactly where a fill flash needs to be.
And it's the perfect fill flash in bright sunlight too, because of its power.

ttl is for on camera only short term I will only have mods of the sort I have for my speedlights so at least short term they'll do the big speedlight job admirably :D

so use the ring close and shoot wide, I can play with that :p
