Lastolite Lumen8 equiment?

Has anyone any experience of the Lastolite Lumen8 stuff?

Been offered a 400w head, seems well put together but lack of cooling fan, non-replaceable flash tube put me off.

How would these fare for a days constant use? Cant seem to find many reviews.

Hi Neil

First of all, I am not a great fan of flash/strobe lighting and therefore not an expert by any means. However, I do own and use a Lumen 8 setup with 400 heads and they have never let me down or malfunctioned in any way.

Thinking back to previous experience with other makes, I can’t remember anything that stands out as being better than my current Lastolite Lumen 8 kit. Nevertheless, even wound down the 400's do chuck out so much light that controlling and flagging can be frustrating, particularly with small setups, unless you fancy ‘nuking’ the subject - Mind you that’s pretty typical with all of the conventional flash kits.

Summing up – If I needed a flash head I would go for the Lumen 400, provided it didn’t look knackered and the price was fine.
