Lastolite black velvet?

I've been using light grey walls of my living room as a background up to now, but I'd like something different.

I'd like to have some rim lighting for the hair, and try some low key shots.

After some research, I'm drawn towards the Lastolite black velvet collapsible background. Is this a good option?

I have a Pellier Noir black velvet background and it really soaks up the light and in use if fantastic--just doesn't get used as I don't have the room but black velvet is the way.
