does anybody own the lastolite "hi-lite?" just wondering because since its a rather new product, there isn't much customer feedback anywhere for it! would love to know what problems anyone has encountered with it!:D

is that the big 2.4 x 2.5 one?

errmmm they come in about three sizes, but yea that's one of them.... big square thing that looks like an empty sandwhich about a foot deep, with zippers on the side to put the flash heads into on either end and zip them in...if i did get one i'd be getting the train attachment also so it could be used as full view....

the big one is a pain in the bum to fold, took bout halfhour of wrestling to get back in the bag after wed finished, sent mine back, struggle to get it to stand up in a normal room, and very creased, but i know you got a few lights so that last one wont be too much of a problem for you. i think one of the smaller ones wouldnt be too bad though.

ahhhh that's interesting, i was eyeing up the 5'x7' model...i would have thought from what it looks like, the material was a non-creasable type of polyester or something....??

yea saw a few of the demos for it too :D everything always looks better than it is lol!

Yep I've got the big one and to be honest I do like it but I wish I had bought the smaller one as it's just too unwieldy when it comes to folding it. It takes two of us and my family swear at me if I put it up! It's also rather tall for anyone with low ceilings.
The train is a waste of time because it is not backlit as the rest of the "sarnie" is. The result is somewhat obvious so I didn't get it. It is great for headshots and 3/4 but I don't use it for full length.

I've also used it with gels to shoot silhouettes and they turned out great. And I've used it as a giant softbox so it's quite versatile.

Would I buy one again?
Probably, yes, but I'd buy the smaller one.

There you go then ladies.

Two lights in the hilite with red gel clipped on with bulldog clamps.

My other half is 6'3" and built like an outhouse but even he runs and hides from it!

And it does look like a huge slice of bread :gag:

ewwww nice red! neato. huge slice of bread (lol)- i like!! if it has trouble standing up...is there anyway you can get some backdrop clips and clip it to a backdrop stand overhead? (so it doesnt knock your subject in the head! lol)

Yes you can attach it to the "crossbar" of a background support. Or nail it to the wall! lol

Dumb question time....Do you use continuous lighting or flash?

Carl.

would be pretty blinding continuous lights if u had 'em to match those of a flash :D

I just thought I'd say I've got the Hilite 6x7 with the train... I prefer lighting it by having one light on the background and one on the subject... I've done some great shots using it like that.
I do struggle sometimes to get it folded though... need gorilla arms!!! lol

I use the 6x7 backgrounds all the time, their dead easy to fold once you get the nack, I find grabbing the long side with both hands (near each end) and twisting them both inwards together works for me every time. Wayne

lol i can't wait till mine arrives, should be here Monday :D:D:D:D

well mine finally came today :D, put it up in seconds and was thoroughly impressed...only wish i had gone for the 6x7' option instead lol!

been trying to fold it for the last 20mins :D lol, after having watched the demo vids. on lastolite's site, im still in mayhem...problem is the actual folding it inwards to make it curl up....anybody have any inside info :D:D:D??

It's a bit like one of those annoying metal puzzles... looks impossible until you've done it once, then you wonder why you ever found it so hard!

Sorry, that's not very helpful is it!

Flashy

What was that you said about wanting the 6x7 again? lol
