IMO, poverty and greed are the enemies, not mankind.
 
The 2 females are his daughter and granddaughter so I wonder how well the potential offspring might turn out?

extinction was caused by poaching to satisfy the demands of the Chinese, (who shove powdered horn up their arses and other places) and for Yemani dagger handles

Rhino horn is now worth more than gold per kilo - many of the poachers in Southern Africa are now not poor, they are part of criminal gangs
 
Dreadful, isn't it, just a daughter and a granddaughter of his remaining.
Thousands and thousands poached for the mythical belief in the orient that their horns have aphrodisiacal qualities.
Much more endangered than elephants but a lot less money being spent on their protection.
There is a small hope that there may be an attempt at IVF from a very similar species further south.

Regarding ivory - The Chinese have banned the sale of all ivory regardless of its age and we should do the same.

that's very obvious and general and could be said of many, many things .............

but demand from the Chinese has driven the poaching of Rhino horns, animal bones and ivory ....... in respect of Rhino horns it was not greed or poverty, it was and is the primitive beliefs of the Chinese and other Asian nations who believe that such have a magical effect - stop this "chinese demand" and there would be manny, many more Rhinos still alive

It's not greed, it's not poverty it is the "state of man"

I just read the article and it says "The plan is to use stored sperm from several northern white rhino males, and eggs from the remaining younger females, and implant the embryo in a surrogate southern white rhino."

Looks like they must have extracted some sperm from another males before they died. There was actually a programme on TV tonight about him, but I only caught the second half of it. They were practicing IVF on other species of Rhino but were so far uncussessful :(
