Yes
My wife is going to Peru to meet up with my daughter at the end of the month to do a bit of hiking etc.
I can't go as my hips are bad (waiting for an op so can't walk much and would be a hinderance) but really don't want to spend 3 week alone at home.
So, I'm wondering what I could do that isn't too expensive - there always used to be various last minute holiday deals which I will look into as I do love the sun although don't really need the extremes of Mediterranean summer heat - I'd hope to fly from Newquay in Cornwall so I'll start by looking to flights from Newquay to see where they go.
However there must be loads of things going on in the UK or north France etc that just don't come to mind as it's been so long since I holidayed without the family. Could be a day trip (or 2) or a week away, has to be fairly cheap, has to involve a comfortable bed and ideally some nice food!
In some ways the idea of doing something totally new to me appeals, but then again, so does a few days on a beach.
Either way I don't want to be on my feet all day.

So, any thoughts on where you'd go or what you might do if in my position?
I know this is a very vague question, but that's deliberate as I'm kind of hoping for some suggestions that I'd not even think about.

Looking at what flights there are from Newquay, you are fairly limited Steve.
However I see that Ryanair fly to Alicante. You could spend a nice inexpensive few days there.
Ha, no surprise getting a reply about Alicante from you!
Yup, I've flown there a few times, love the place, know of a good cheap hotel and have a couple of favourite restaurants there too so it's certainly a possible!

I was just wondering about flights from Exeter instead, not too far away and a few more choices?

I can say that we very much like Guernsey, have been many times over the past couple of decades.

Fast ferry from Weymouth with or without a car.

Best of luck sorting out a good break :)

What about Europe by train? A lad down our street is on a fortnights holiday using the train to get around, using interrail.

We went Blue Islands to Jersey a few months back (from Bristol). Rained a lot but the flights in the prop plane were memorable. For the best reasons.

Love to try Jersey again when the sun comes out.

Oh, I'd not ever really thought about Exeter, what a great idea!
Palma is nice. I’d rent a scooter and go exploring the island too.
And I've never been to Palma, so that's a real possible

Thanks, I'll look into Guernsey, another new one on me.

Hmm, I do like a train journey so will do some research.

I've never been to Jersey either. Bristol is do-able for me so will look into Jersey as well.

Many thanks for all the helpful replies and suggestions.
I did say Newquay purely as it is close to me, but will look into all suggestions.
Much appreciated!

Just a reflection on Guernsey and/or Jersey

Guernsey is smaller and in a sense more intimate, though we always have a car (mine or hired) there is a round island bus route. Driving is relaxed with IIRC a max 35mph limit.

Jersey is the "big" island and seemed busier and well too much in a hurry.

Oh, from Guernsey it is easy to reach Herm and Sark.......but if your mobility is challenged, check out the available ways to get around them.

I am no expert on Guernsey but happy to answer any questions as best I can, if you need any answers??.

We found that once out of St Helier the countryside was beautiful. St Helier is more like Birmingham with all the financial headquarters office blocks going up.
