Yes
Hi all, been thinking I need a harder case to put my camera body in, a 70-200 & 150-600 lens also.. plus all the other bits you need keeping secure and safe when travelling about.. in the car etc Then as I need something I can transfer into a shoulder carry bag.

saw these type of things on ebay.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/329-US-PR...850db5&pid=100037&rk=6&rkt=24&sd=391546369858

are they any good?

would I get much in it?

What do you all use?

tnx

Looks to be the same as one I have. It's very useful to take equipment to an event or shoot. The inside is foam that you can shape for your camera bodies and lenses to fit inside. Right now mine has a medium format body, 3 lenses and batteries etc with space for flashes. Light stands and larger items can be strapped on outside if needed.

and is yours standing up well?

would you mind showing me a photo how you set it out, would a 150-600 lens go in it ok?

Stands up very well  inside its 51cm so depends on the size of your lens and looks like this. IMG_1472767716.084833.jpg

This case looks excellent value especially when compared to the Lowepro roller cases.

It is great value. Got mine from a shop and ended up getting three :)

External dimensions should fit most airline carry-on limits too (but not all).

…got myself a pretty large Peli and two smaller ones,
all in sand colour… real pleasure!

Looks to be an inexpensive alternative to the pelican 1510/1514 I own. It should hold your kit.
Some people have noted issues with hard cases "shaking" their gear and causing damage. I guess there are better wheels that can be put on them... I haven't had an issue yet though.

Blimey, how much kit have you got ;)

The kit has been breeding it seems! 1 case each for medium format body and lenses, small case for dslr bodies, one for prime lenses and one for zooms.

I lift over cobbles as the shaking on that would be a worry :)

These things are heavy. I just checked the weight of what looks like the same case in another ad and it's 6.6kg. Pelis are similar, if not more. A kinda similar size backback is nearer 2kg and the Lowepro/ThinkTank etc rollers are 4-ish kg.

Regarding my earlier comment about being airline carry-on size - yes, mostly, but the weight limit is usually 10kg.

Great point. Personally I would not want to use for carry-on. Backpacks are much better for that as lighter. The hard case is more likely useful for fragile hold luggage if you cant fit everything in carry-on.

I've never had a carry-on weighed... Nice thing about the peli/hard case is the occasional time when bags have to get checked at the gate unexpectedly.

it's mainly to keep stuff all in one place, in the back of the car etc and if i need to cart my kit about securely.

Not really. There is enormous variation from one airline to another as far as the carry-on weight limit is concerned, and there's no such thing as "usual". The most common limit is probably 7kg or 8kg, but some airlines which you might expect to be generous aren't - for example Virgin Atlantic only allows 6kg.

Interesting, here in the USA most of the airlines I fly on don't have a carryon weight limit at all (United/Delta/Southwest/etc), or it's quite generous at 40lbs/18kg or more (American/Continental/etc). Apparently there are some with much lower restrictions, but I've never encountered them.

There is no universal standard for carry-on size or weight, but the most common size appears to be LxWxD = 55x40x25m (could be smaller) and the most common weight limit is 10kg (could be more or less, or unlimited). A typical pro-standard outfit can easily weigh 6-8kg, plus another couple for a laptop, plus the weight of the case itself. There are lots of lists like the link below, and having checked a few of them, they appear to be accurate. Whether they are actually enforced or not depends on a few things, like how full the flight is, the actual aeroplane model, business/economy class, and maybe your smile ;)

Popular airlines to be wary of are Ryanair (max depth only 20cm, 10kg) and Virgin Atlantic (width 36cm, depth 23cm, 10kg). Cases are measured in those drop-in measuring cages or boxes they have at check-in. They have a few mms grace over the stated limits, but some so-called carry-on friendly cases need the front pockets emptying and the whole thing crushed to death to meet their claimed dimensions. Some will not meet the tighter limits, no matter what you do.

ps If you're over the the weight limit and don't want your case chucked in the hold, shove a couple of lenses in your jacket pockets - if you're wearing it, it doesn't count ;) Those photographer's waistcoats with lots of big pockets are only £15-ish on ebay/Amazon :D

I'm of the opinion that the perfect bag/case for all situations doesn't exist.

For most of the time, I use a Peli 1560 wheeled case. I prefer dividers as I can easily adjust to carry what I want, rather than plucked foam type. However - its heavy, oversize for airport hand luggage, the wheels dislike longer grass and cobbles.

So as well as that, I keep a medium sized Lowepro backpack, a largish Lowepro shoulder bag and a messenger style one that just sneaks in as hand luggage.

The one the OP links to looks like a Peli clone and should do the job. Just think about the layout options before picking and plucking!
