Hi, My Daughter would love a large Canvas of New York Times Square, you know the one with the yellow cabs. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can download such an image, as I intend to get a 24x16 canvas made up with it, so it will have to be a decent size image.

Many thanks.

Have you tried searching google images and using the options down the side to dictate the resolution you require?

Alternatively, I'm sure Ikea sell ready made canvases with various New York scenes.

Are you going to pay the photographer that took the image you intend to download?

Any stock picture gallery will be happy to sell you a image.

Thanks folks, I'll have a search for some large images and see how much they are compared to the Amazon one.

With all these sources it is a wonder how anyone makes money. There's some huge pictures available for £20-30.

What can you do when some part-time photographers sell their photos to these companies that prints and sell them so cheap?

You can:
1/ Shrug and accept that the world has moved on
2/ Rant and cry about how it's all so unfair

For me its 1st option since i am not too bothered about making money from phototgraphy but i do feel bad for those who make a living out of it...

Ian Cameron (no part-timer) has had an established relationship putting out prints through Lidl for several years. Have you looked to see who is taking the photos that are appearing on these canvases?

I guess you can either take £1 from each of 10,000 sales and have someone else do the selling to an established audience, or £1,000 from 10 sales and spend a chunk of that on marketing and pushing the buttons down on the till.

I know which one of those two options leaves you with more time on the road taking the pictures.

:plusone:

I'd love to know how to get to the buyers for some of these companies, as some of the images that John Lewis and the like sell for £120 for a canvas are pretty poor.

Wasn't there a famous retailer that produced a canvas of a VW scooby doo van thing with an unlicensed image?

Was it not that the photograph had been taken of the VW without the owners knowledge whilst attending a rally? I don't think that the copyright/license of the photograph was the problem, but that the owner of the van was upset to see his vehicle on a commercially sold image.

Was in B&M Bargains the other day and they had some decent enough large canvasses from £7 to £15. I only went in for some toffees and nearly bought two canvasses!

Interesting. Thanks

as everyone has said, you can buy one (several?) at ikea, though i can't seem to find it on the website after a very quick search. i've had the yellow cabs one for about 5 years, it's pretty good and perhaps doesn't look as tacky as this link makes it look :) link (ended ebay auction nothing to do with me)
