Large images and Facebook

Can anyone please advise on the "best" way to save an image for later posting on Facebook?

Larger images seem to take forever to load onto Facebook pages and I just wondered if there was a better way to process/save them.
 
There was a Facebook user guide that had all the information on for optimum file sizes etc, I generally find uploading large files to Facebook a bad idea as whatever compression they are using on their can ruin images, getting the right size and optimum settings seems to reduce their compression on the image, but I'm sure some one here will have better advice :)

As a general rule for any online images I go for 1000px tall maximum as this would fit with most people's viewing devices, hope that helps

1280px for Facebook - They take ownership of everything you upload so it's not worth giving them large images to use in their ad campaigns ;)
(My rationale for this is that a bunch of common phones (including mine) now use 1280px for their long side resolution, so I can dual purpose the images for showing to people on my phone when I'm out and about if the need arises - I'm far too lazy to export multiple sets)
 
Exclusive rights for unmitigated and claimless reproduction been taken out of their EULA then? That'd be nice, though still don't trust any 800lb gorilla with my images:)

Shouldn't have been lazy with my language, obviously they can't *take* ownership, but you implicitly grant them the same rights upon upload (AFAIK).
 
2048px on long edge is the maximum size for Facebook. Make sure you check high quality upload too.

I save at 72ppi, sharpen for screen, 100% quality in Lightroom then put it into JPEGmini to reduce file size even further.
 
I found this guidance very useful - can't remember where or how I came across it, but I bookmarked it and keep going back to it.
 
When I upload images for FB, they are 800px longest edge and I reduce the quality to about 70%. Makes them a nice small file size and not much use for anyone to do anything with. Also they have a watermark on them. Thats just my personal choice and everyone will be different I am sure.
 
I follow my own guidance above and thought that was sufficient to stop people stealing my images. However my daughter-in-law has just asked me retrospectively (!) if I was okay with her having ordered up one of my images as a canvas! I'll be interested to see how it turns out...

Interesting indeed to see what it turns out like. Why didnt she just ask you if she could have a copy of the image high res?

That's what I said! I don't think she understands the whole resolution thing....
