Hi guys,
I've been sucked into doing a group photoshoot tomorrow against my will. No money in it, nothing serious, but it's for family and I'd rather not screw it up.

It's at a Christening in a church, I've not attended the Church but I've been told that it's bright and modern, that's all I know.

Now, I've got to take a group of about 20-30 people, I have never shot any more than 2 people at a time so I'm a little clueless to be honest.

I think I might pack a tripod to be safe in case it's not that well lit and I need to use a slower shutter.

What sort of settings should I be looking at to ensure everyone's in focus? I have no idea on size as to whether they'll all be in a straight row or one behind the other etc. Is flash required? I'll be using my 16-85, I don't think the 70-200 will be of much use!

Any advice is appreciated, I'm sure it'll be easier than I'm expecting but I'm pancking a bit!

I'll be honest, the brief is a nightmare.

Shooting a large group indoors is a job best done with serious flash gear. Get the outside and shoot at the church door. Take small steps to get some height (now you can easily shoot a deeper group) and Bobs your Uncle.

The 'little jobs for no money' are the worst in this respect, 'they' think that if they tell you exactly what to do, all you have to do is press the shutter. The reality of course is the more freedom you have, the better and easier the end result.

Thank you for the response Phil, pretty much confirmed what I had hoped wouldn't be the answer!

I don't think getting them outside is going to be an option as they specifically want it "in" the church, however I'll try my best to make sure it does happen.

Thank you for your response mate!

Sorry for not replying to this guys, didn't end up doing it as they forgot, suited me okay in the end to be honest!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
