Yes
Not sure right section to ask
I only have a laptop which has been shutting down on me only when using Lightroom or Photoshop, it has dedicated graphics driver
Have gone through various options but came to the conclusion it might be over heating, the fan kicks in when it occurs and becomes really noisy just before any crash
I dom literally sit with it on my lap so could be blocking airflow, have today taken fans out and cleaned.
Do any of you know of a device that you would reccomend to create a space to allow airflow when it is on my lap, most appear to be designed for desk or table

I use a 16 x 12 backboard from a picture frame.

I use a Belkin laptop cooler on my lap. It has a fan in it that connects by USB and is cushion like underneath, so quite comfy. I only plug it in to use the fan if I feel it is getting hot - which happens when I am processing photos. I've had it for years, so I don't know if they are still available.

I have had motherboards replaced on previous laptops, a Dell and a Mac, so I am keen not to let this one overheat. It's now 6 years old, so has done the trick!

I just googled... this is my one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12454425...Em1WT1TWwpiWRjBktNgHkjyvt3tIReDxoCeWwQAvD_BwE

I have also used these ones, but have had two of them break on me, although they did work well before they broke - they do have a lifetime warranty I think which I used the first time - didn't bother the second. It's more suited to using on a hard surface rather than a lap.

If the laptop is more than a couple of years old then the thermal paste has probably dried out and doesn't work so effectively. I had this with a Dell XPS last year, where it was throttling and running slow - replaced the paste and full performance was restored. It's usually a DIY job.

Out of interest what's the laptop?
