Yes
I have a six month old Toshiba laptop & in the past few days it is worrying me.

Each time I start up the screen has - like - interference lines running across it. What does this mean - I wonder

Rang Toshiba support who said 98% certain to be software issue NOT hardware & suggested system recovery back to how it was when first bought

I think I will run the usual CC & Malware stuff to see what I can do as 'back to factory' thing will be a right pain.

Any ideas anyone :help:

Do they go away or change when you move the hinge (not good)

Three shots taken when just started up.

Just spoke to the retailer (the Co-Op) who said to follow the advice of the Toshiba Tech Support & do a System Recovery :gag:

Yeah try updating your graphics driver.
If not, it looks to me like a hardware fault in my opinion.

Does this only happen once your in windows, or does it happen during boot up as well?

you could try updating the graphics driver, whats the graphics card in it?

Tried that but thanks - it is Intel (R) HD Graphics

I'm no computer technical expert but also feel it is more likely to be hardware but am happy if I'm proven wrong. Happens when opened up as shown in photos & not before.

Good way to test is with another OS. Sounds bad, it's not.

Download a "live" linux OS, something like Linux Mint or Puppy Linux, burn/copy to DVD or USB stick and boot off that, the relevant OS websites give full instructions on how to do this. If the lines are still there, it has to be hardware.

In fact, just found this to help... www.linuxliveusb.com

so are you saying it only happens when you open up lightroom or as soon as you get into windows (i.e. the initial Toshiba logo screen and windows loading screens are okay)?

also try booting into safe mode (press F8 before the windows loading screen), does it happen then?

Jeff thanks for your thoughts which I will add to the list of positive things to try.

Neil thank you as well for your help.

Just opened in Safe Mode twice & no interference even when I ran progs

Also restarted twice & no interference - dare I try again

It was happening:
1) When previously I had turned it off completely but only once you reached the Windows set up. Not the initial Toshiba & Windows loading screens.
2) When I had shut the lid with various progs open because I knew I would be back at it fairly soon .

I spoke too soon as interference back so I have now run the system recovery & it is back to how it was when I first bought it. Fed up with it for now so typing this on my Pad & see if I can face laptop later. But thanks so much for the help. - much appreciated.

Great :), yeah looks like maybe your driver or something became corrupted.

Managed to steel myself for another session & guess what - I turned on after the system recovery the Toshiba Tech told me to do - & the interference is still there. I will wait until Monday unless they're open over the weekend which I doubt.

So really am fed up with it now :shake:

Hook up to a monitor, enter bios/system setup (f2 or Del) on toshiba screeb and if it still does it, then its a hardware fault. could be a dodgy graphics card chip or laptop screen is playing up

At this stage you need to stop investigating and ask for replace or refund on a six month old machine.

Will be on the phone first thing in the morning.

I doubt the retailer has a legal obligation to do that yet at this stage. Would be nice if they did

Called Toshiba Support & been given a zip file which is an exe file to flash the bios. Whatever that means

I've ran it & restarted a few times without the problem. Trying to restart again now but installing, downloading & configuring zillions of updates

Fingers crossed for you John.

Thanks Nod but it's a real pain in the rrr's :(

Sod it is still getting the interference.

Rang Tech Support again & they are sending courier for it tomorrow. They say I need to make Product Recovery discs as none were supplied when I bought it. Not like the old days :shake:

Will be no more than 10 days -

remember to backup your files, they probably state in the small print that they can/will wipe the machine without warning.

Just on it now & yes they do warn you & email it in writing. What a time consuming pain. But thanks for reminder

What your seeing are one of two things:

1) The connection to the screen is worn, common in cheap laptops as the cable work hardens with the constant open/close of the screen.

Test this by closing the screen and seeing if the lines move/change at all.

2) Graphics artefacts from a heat damaged GPU.

Nothing you can do.

An update.

My Laptop went back for repair - to Germany - and was a total of eight days with full order tracking at all stages. It came back yesterday so I now have the task of getting my things back on it but I have a checklist which I prepared before it went off

It's had a new screen, BIOS & DMI checked & tested with T&D but not sure what the latter means

So there you have it

Fingers crossed for you John.

Thanks Nod & I am looking at their offer of extending my initial warranty for a further 2 or 3 years. I shudder to think what he repair would of cost if I'd been paying
