Laptop Hard Drive question

I've got an Acer Aspire V5 touch screen laptop with 8gb ram, one of the i5 processors and an integrated graphics card. The current 1Tb hard drive needs replacing. I'll be selling the laptop after I swap the hard drives over but I just wanted the opinion of some experts regarding what I should replace it with.

The 3 options I have are:

Standard 1Tb HDD - about £50
1 Tb Hybrid Drive - about £65
240Gb SSD - about £65

Of those options which would you prefer to have in your laptop?

In your experience is there much difference between HDD and Hybrid boot-up?

Would you prefer the limited storage but faster boot-up etc of the SSD? I know a lot of people store images/videos etc elsewhere (I do).

I want to spend as little as possible but attract the largest possible market for the resale - doesn't everyone!

If I was selling it I would just go with a standard hd. It really depends who you are selling it to and what they would use it for, as to if they would prefer a ssd.

If I was was buying I would prefer the ssd.

Thanks Kev. It's a tricky one isn't it. I'd prefer the SSD as well. It'll be interesting to see if thats the majority opinion. That might be slightly skewed on a photography website!

Hi Mark,

There is as you probably know a vast difference between a normal mechanical hdd (one with spinning platters) and and SSD. I recently replaced a spinning drive in my MBP with an SSD and its night and day. The hybrid drives attempt to offer a best of both words scenario, where commonly accessed files tend to be added to the ssd portion of the hybrid drive, such as OS files, so make them snappy and quick to load. Its a little faster than the standard drive, but not as fast as a true ssd.

For me my preference would be to go with a 240/250 gb ssd. Assuming your laptop has usb, storage is easily expandable for a buyer through the purchase of an external drive.

So SSD it is and Amazon has kindly sent me a £10 off code this very morn'. Lovely.
