I very much doubt you'd get a bargain from PC World.........

Have a look at Novatech. That's what I personally would do if I wanted a new machine.

I was in at PC World yesterday with gf looking for a laptop cooler and wasn't impressed with the machines in your budgeted price range when we had a nozy in passing. They seemed cheap to the feel keyboard and touch pad wise plus the specifications seemed on the low side of what a machine in your budget could do if bought elsewhere.

A laptop from PC world, I thought they only sold fridges and tv's there now

Change of plan I think I'm going for a dell xps any comments?

Yes, go for the full HD screen and quad i7 if you can afford it. Also check out whether Dell have any discount codes - there's a 10% one off XPS at the moment (you need to apply it at the checkout).

We love our Dell 15" XPS... handles RAW files from a 5D2 with ease and has pretty good battery life too...

I was looking at the refurbs and the new builds not sure what to go for. Can you find out how much damage there is on the refurbs?
how much better is the 1080 screen? I'm tempted but is the extra really worth it?

Oh and can you still get cashback on the outlet store?

I haven't bought anything from the outlet store yet (but I plan to very soon) but my friend ordered a laptop a while ago and it arrived in mint condition, not even a fingerprint on it. I think a lot of the ones that come back for refurb are doa with a problem component (memory or drive etc) and they just swap it around for a new part or returns from shops etc. I think its unlikely you will get a badly soiled unit with much cosmetic damage. You can always phone and ask though?

As to screen, yes, I think it's worth the extra. It's supposed to have better brightness, colour rendition and viewing angles. You can also get a lot more on it too.... I wouldn't like to go back to a 1366x768 screen now.
