Looking to replace my 7 yr old i5 laptop with something new. Mainly lr and ps but with the new d850, the file size is chunky. Like the idea of an uhd display for on the move and linking back to a larger physical monitor when at home.

Not interested in apple and dell xps15 comes up regularly as top choice on windows but interested if theres sensible alternatives that tp’ers would recommend

It’s probably not a need but a want. Budget c £1.8-2k ish top end. Happy to have an ssd and trad hd in laptop but want decent usb c arrangements for desk use

Thoughts welcome

from all my research in resent weeks the Dell XPS 15 came out on top but especially with a £1500 budget especially for windows machines, MacBook Pro as an alternative but cant upgrade and pricey for big memory options

Cant justify the 1.5k myself so went with a cheaper Dell 13" option with similar intention to use a monitor when home and so far happy with it. The lower budget recommended options all had screen issues,

i mac 21inch or 27 inch has 4k
you will wonder how you ever managed with a windows machine

It's worth keeping an eye on Dell's outlet as there are several high-spec XPS 9560s available at very attractive prices. Okay, they're the previous generation of CPU but I doubt anyone will notice.....
The XPS 9360 I bought there last year had a better CPU than Dell officially sold in that series plus W10 Pro rather than Home and I suspect it may have been part of a cancelled order rather than a return. An extra 10% off on the day made it too good to turn down.

I would have a look at this from Chillblast. Dedicated for photo editing and well within budget too.

15.6" 4k screen
i7 87750H 6 core CPU
16GB RAM
GTX 1050Ti GPU
Samsung 960 evo 250gb m.2 drive
1TB HDD
USB Type C port
6 in 1 card reader

The XPS series do seem to be some of the best windows laptops available, and the outlet can provide excellent value as suggested.

Microsoft surface laptop is only 13.5", although the build should be very good & the battery life is excellent.

Then there's Razer, which is also a high-end and finely crafted product in the style of the original Unibody Macbooks, but running W10. https://www.razer.com/gb-en/comparisons/blade-15 They offer 13", 15" and 17" variants, and would probably be my choice if unlimited by budget.

Never heard of razer before, read a brief review and sounds great but a bit too far over budget for the 4k screen

Is a 4K screen essential?
