Yes
Just read today that there will be a fly by from a Lancaster over Eyebrook Reservoir in Rutland.
I've no idea how busy it will be, but would like to take advantage of the views over the display, rather than close ups at 'ground' level.

Did anyone go to the event 10 years ago?

Thursday 16th May ;)

As for how busy, I would think absolutely packed with togs and every TV network in the UK.

70 years to the day.

It's funny how there's nothing online about it, but here's a few lines from the Northants Evening Telegraph

A Lancaster bomber will take part in a flypast over Eyebrook Reservoir as part of the events marking the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid. The flypast, Thursday 16th May is one of many taking place in the UK.
On Friday, May 17, as part of the commemorations, BBC Radio2 is broadcasting a special day programming.

i have also been told abut eyebrook but not sur if you will be able to get any topside shots ? Has the res got high sides? im off to the derwent on the 16 as its closer to me and i will get topside shots i hope

No time given in the paper and was hoping to find that on line. Maybe that's not been finalised yet.

As for the reservoir

There are a couple of roads with good views over it, they'll be busy/coned I expect.

Just a note that the flying of the Lancaster is very limited by the weather. They interviewed the pilot on R2, and he was saying they won't fly unless its near perfect with very little wind.

I've just asked BBMF via FB, will probably get an answer tomorrow :)
Nice one

That's fine, as I don't shoot if the weather's not in my favour :D

The Lancaster is definitely flying over Eyebrooke. If I remember correctly, it is at 2.45pm. But I may have got confused. Got so much going on at the minute!
I was going to attend this one, but looking at those images, now unlikely. I want topside shots with water below.
Looks like a reccie to Derwent is in order.

Kev.

The flypast is due to take place between 13:35 and 14:05 on the 16th May

Cheers for that gaz :)

Very tempted to go up to Derwent , sounds like it will be traffic chaos, with the road closed, Chatsworth may be the better option round here.

i watched the red arrows from Beeley moor overlooking the road through Chatsworth last year , that was amazing.

Thursday 16 May
Derwent Reservoir/Chatsworth House both in Derbyshire
1.15pm approximately
BBMF Lancaster flypast
Please note that there will be severe traffic restrictions in the area around the Derwent Dam. No tickets are being issued, parking is severely limited, and the roads will be closed if they become overly busy. See here for full details. The Lancaster flyover will be followed by modern day Tornadoes from 617 Squadron.
The aircraft, which are expected to comprise the Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane (although this is not specified), will then fly on to Chatsworth at 1.20pm where, the RAF is keen to tell you, there is plenty of parking (costing £3 per vehicle) and opportunity to take pictures.
This may well be the better option unless you are willing to spend a lot of time either hiking cross country to the dam or waiting in very long traffic queues.
The Lancaster will also overfly the nearby town of Chapel-en-le-Frith to honour pilot Bill Astell, killed on the raid.

Left too late to get 'ringside' and was too far away on the road overlooking the reservoir :(
Big grey cloud settled in the way too.

Opposite view from the top left corner from the 1st pic in the thread.
The cloud, haze and distance gave me too much trouble at full focal length, so I just tried to get something a bit more scenic. Didn't do too well with that either :D

They are very precise with the timing. When it came down here a couple of weeks ago we were told it would turn up at 2:34... and it did!

Steve.

Looks like there was a fair bit of traffic there too.

Nice pic by the way

I could have gone to this flypast, but I opted for Derwent Reservoir instead - that went really well too, was a great sight.

nice pic of the old girl :-)
wonder if the still have a navigator doing it oldschool in the back :-)
