Hi All,

I am busy planning a trip up to the lake district for a few days in a weeks time and wondered what/where people would recommend. I have been only once before, quite a few years ago, so don't remember much about it.

I am looking for suggestions of the best places to base myself (ideally although prob not possible, in the middle of somewhere that has lots of things around), so suggestions of areas to be and actual places to stay that people have perhaps stayed in themselves and rate?

Browsing Amazon just now I have come across the following book which seems to be pretty comprehensive - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...4_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=S9T7Y1MT4NGDTJZY0R33

Has anyone got that one and would they recommend it?

Also whats it like driving around the lakes? Fairly easy? A but hairy? I went to Cornwall earlier this year and lets just say some of the roads down there are a little hairy, and narrow, and pretty stressful to drive around I found by the end of my trip.

Any and all suggestions welcome, could use plenty of advice.

My main aim is to capture autumnal colour, changing of the seasons and stunning landscapes (not much to ask then) :)

Quite a lot of threads on The Lakes. Might be worth searching for them on the forum :)

Yo man. You just sold me a bag, and left me cringe inducing feedback!
I live just over an hour from the Lakes and go there regularly. I'm happy to spend a day with you if you can put up with me.
Don't think Autumn colour is really out yet but in a couple of weeks it should be glorious.
What dates are you thinking of going?
PM me if appropriate.

Driving is easy enough although just leave extra time and enjoy the scenery :) As Dave said plenty of advice on this forum. That book is very good as is one by E Bowness.

Hi @antc
This book is excellent....plenty of info on places to visit ,car parking ,best time of day to visit etc ...The Photographers Guide To The Lake District ....purchased from Rigu who give awesome customer service (y)

Driving around is easy, some very narrow lanes but even on a sunny saturday last weekend the traffic was minimal ....do allow lots of time though as the scenery can be breath taking.....& watch out for the sheep !

Depends what type of accommodation you're after.....we stayed at Buttermere Youth Hostel , very clean ,warm , comfy beds , meals available & friendly staff.....cheap n cheerful but ideal as right on Buttermere lake. Also stayed at Wild Rose campsite in wigwams a few years back.....love wigwams

Based at Buttermere we visited, Blea Tarn , Thirlmere, Crummock Water , Catbells, Warnscale Bothy , Derwent Water , Rydal Water .....longest journey was about 1hr 10mins with photo opportunities around almost every corner .

Hope this helps :)
