Anybody know what's up with LR "Classic". I have a fast machine with catalogues on an NVME drive and images on a second NVME. The machine is hard wired to a cable connection currently serving up 400 Mb/s to the internet.

Lately when I open LR I get a 1 - 2 *minute* pause while it is "not responding". Then it comes back to its regular speedy self. Same thing at change of catalogue.

Is it phoning home? Checking drives? Any ideas what it could be doing?

Same. Raised it as an issue with Adobe because it started happening for me the (major) update before last. Got the usual "uninstall/reinstall" blather from Adobe. When I had an "accident" on my PC, I did a clean reinstall of windows and Lightroom and no difference observed.

With Task Manager, there is a large (jumps from 3% to about 20%) CPU spike and a big spike in Ethernet usage. It's not memory/disk related as far as I can see. My guess is some over-complicated phone home. For me it's about 15 seconds which is annoying but not earth shattering. 2 minutes would drive me up the wall.

You mentioning it has made me take a closer look. It's definitely an "internet usage" thing jumping to 100Mbps over the ethernet connection for the duration of the freeze, then dropping down to small kbps once the freeze is over.

Well it is in my case anyway.

I had the same with Photoshop, 40-50 seconds to open a preview. I needed a clean install so decided it was time. Theres some improvement but still disappointing.

I run AMD Ryzen 9 3600, 32gb of fast ram, and an NVME 4.2gbs SSD. My Internet speed is in excess of 300mbs most of the time.

To say it's disappointing is an understatement. Seems to me that Adobe are just dumping more and more code into a good program and making it ever slower.

I have started to look for an alternative as I don't use it much any more due to my photography and drone hobby is in a nit of a lull.

Yeah my spec isn't far from yours. There's clearly something up. I'm wondering if Adobe auth servers are getting hammered.

You could try transferring say everything before this year to external drive and delete from Lightroom it must be indexing possibly hundreds of old files causing it
