Hey, ive just borrowed this camera to do a project at college to multi-expose film, but ive never used it before, and the tutor whizzed through it and now im a little confused.

I dont supose you could tell me how to check the exposures right? when i look through the viewfinder i see a circle in two halfs, and they change from transparent in colour to very dark, on the right hand side there are flashing lights on different apertures.

has anyone used this camera before as i cant explain it any easier and im stuck! help!

cheers
charlie xx

The circle in two halves is the focusing aid (if it's in the centre of the viewfinder) You should see the centre of your image split in two parts which will come together as they come into focus. The flashing lights sound like they are the thing to watch for exposure, try a search for the manual via google.

Yep that's a split image rangefinder Charlie as Steep says. The fact that it goes light and dark is no part of it's function, it's just the way these things are, particularly in poor light when they can be less than useless, blacking out altogether.

The easiest way to use it is to put the horizontal line across the centre of that circle across any upright edge in your scene, and watch the two separate images come together as you turn the focus collar on the lens. When the two images come together perfectly... you've focused.

It's difficult to advise on the flashing lights Charlie without seeing the setup of the viewfinder and screen. Flashing lights usually mean you're out of exposure range though, and some adjustment of aperture or shutter speed is needed?

Possibly an electronic representation of match-needle metering ?
