Pity. It's only really Kodak, as far as I can see, that produce consumer orientated films at a reasonable price. It's either that or a price hike for Fuji and the expensive boutique films.
For B&W, of course, there's Ilford (still sold by Boots, which I suppose makes it officially consumer orientated!).
There can't be many companies still making C41, let alone E6 - as far as I can tell, just Kodak, Fuji, and InovisCoat/FilmoTec. Everyone else is just rebadging what these three make, or selling old, discontinued emulsions. Fuji don't seem to have much of a commitment to non-instant films, and it's rumoured their increasingly expensive products like Superia (a consumer film at what is now approaching a premium price) are the just the remainder of old production from dwindling stocks in cold storage. The InovisCoat/FilmoTec (ORWO) merger brings together the long-sundered West and East German inheritors of Agfa's film business. Apparently, InovisCoat makes some colour film for LOMO, and there's talk of new ORWO-branded colour stock in the future.
That leaves Kodak, which is at least still producing film and even introducing new emulsions, though if already expensive films like Portra and Ektar are getting a 20% price hike, I don't know how often I'll be springing for them. I suppose if Superia is killed I can try UltraMax. I've no idea what ColorPlus and Gold are like today, and I've only just noticed that Pro Image 100 exists, which seems to sell for consumer prices despite the name - has anyone tried that one?
