KNIGHT CLUB

Good! Init!
Southport Flower show had a good tournament on last year, believe it or not!

never done medieval.. always fancied.. but full contact? haha

Love watching it, but taking part........nah!

I can't watch this because I'm in another country, and barely have enough bandwidth for forums let alone video, but it looks fascinating.

Can anyone fill in some details for me? I see that it's full contact, but what are the rules and what type of weapons are used? The original tournaments were, more or less, a series of duels and miniature battles (mêlées), and knights used their normal weapons. Fatalities and serious injuries were common. Rules, blunt weapons and specialised heavy armour were gradually introduced to reduce the risks - unless it involved a challenge over a matter of honour - but they were never eliminated. How does this work?

Thanks.

Weapons, anything goes, but blunted of course.
Rules are to get the opponents onto the floor.

That's pretty much all the rules. They certainly weren't holding back.
There were one on one fights, five on five and I think a larger one, maybe 12 on 12. In the UK team, they had a broken arm and several blood wounds in the few rounds they did.

Looks like immense fun.

They have some tourneys down here during the summer, as Tom says, full contact with blunt edges (and points!) Not sure the GRP casts worn by several of the supporting "cast" were period costume though!
