Anyone had Knee Replacement lately?
Got my date for end of Jan 26, both need doing but going for right one first,dreading being laid up but waited quite a while for this.
Should have had first one done back in April but 4 days before op found out I had type 2 diabetes and they wouldn't do it,long story short bloods are now under control and got put back on list in October,quite prepared for recovery just after some positive outcomes from people that's been through it.

i had mine done 2 weeks ago,i had the spinal block and though mine started to wear off as i was on the table longer than usual id would reccomend having it as the recovery on the day is quicker , il not lie and its bloody sore post op,and the first day is agony, take all the analgesia you can, your in hospital a few days, i was 4 but had to wait the extra day for my meds to be sorted as the pharmacy was closed when they decided to send me home, lots of rest post op with ice packs, the pain is settling now for me after the 2 weeks, i was at physio today and have managed to bend my knee to 90 degrees that the physio says is about right, i can potter round the house without crutches or 1, outdoors i take 2 , as nod mentioned the link to my thread the boredom of sitting in the house hasnt been easy for me, im not a stay in the house person, good luck with it
 
What helped my wife recover from her knee replacement surgery, was doing as many exercises as she could before the operation. Plenty of videos on YouTube about it.
 
Does anyone have even a very rough idea on the likely waiting time for the knee operation?
My wife has been referred but we haven’t had any luck finding out the likely waiting time (Wales)

Depends on how severe your surgeon thinks the damage is. My wife had hers within 6 months. But a lady who had her initial consultation at the same time as the wife didn't get hers done for almost a year.
 
I had consultation with Surgeon in October 10th and having Op on 27th Jan
 
That's quite a quick turnaround.

Thanks :) Have not yet had anything back yet from the hospital confirming the referral, going to ring them after Christmas

If you cant run a marathon now you wont be able to run one after.
If your knee gives you pain when you walk, after two-three months you will walk pain free.

First month Pain and a couple weeks morphine
second month more uncomfortable rather than pain and painkillers
End of the third month you should have the exam and discuss the other knee.

You will be so much better you will have forgotten all the pain and discomfort and agree.

Not my experiences but two or three close friends and family members.

Get some good supports for under the knee in bed at night? will you be able to get help to get to bed?

Yeah,I was told after last cancellation that it would probably be quite quick as long as I got my blood sugars under control,I waited 13 months after being advised by my Physio to ask Dr for referral for the one that was cancelled.
 
We have several people at my tai chi class that have replacement knees (after all, it's yoga for old people, right?) We've had people back in class 6 weeks post op. Some people who had them longer ago I wouldn't know they had replacements if I hadn't seen their medical forms - though they do tend to tell everybody :D

Obviously speak to your specialist / physio, but as with most joints: move early, move often.
 
A good friend of mine has had both knees replaced, at different times. The thing he has always said, is that you must do the excecises they tell you to do. Both took about 3 months to completeness. He is 76 now, and still walks 18 holes of golf without any pain.
 
What are the symptoms of needing a knee replacement?
 
my mum just had her knee done at 78 years old, two weeks after and we can't keep her indoors like a rabbit she is off , what a change
 
Yes. I had a half knee replacement a month ago. Nothing at all to be worried about. I was initially concerned about being injected in the spine, but in actual fact it was relatively painless. The first few nights are a bit difficult, and it's taken this long for my knee to return to more, or less, normal size. Other than that I've done well, I think.
