Bit sad in places this one, just to warn you in advance...

My daughter is a trainee veterinary nurse at a local vets. Got a phone call from her yesterday saying that someone had come in with 4 tiny (and I mean tiny) kittens in a box that he'd found abandoned. Usual practice is to call the RSPCA and pass them on, but generally speaking that usually only has one outcome...

She decided in this instance she would try to nurse them through herself, so the wife and I set ourselves up to take shifts through the night with her. There were 2 black and 2 tortoiseshell, so we decided to call them Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, LaLa and Po. Po was definitely the runt of a group of already small kittens.

Sadly Tinky-Winky passed away last night, followed by LaLa at about 2am. We tried our best, but they were just too small and in too poor a condition. Po made it through the night, and seemed to be getting stronger, but died this morning.

The good news is that Dipsy (now known as Dora the explorer) seems very strong, and we have high hopes for her. Long way to go, but she(?)'s looking good.

I know that some people will say that there are too many cats out there, but they didn't ask to be born or abandoned. I'll provide some updates later.

awww bless them, poor mites..

good luck to dora, sounds like you are all doing a wonderful job caring for her

Dora'll be a female, and a blinking gorgeous one at that, well done you! I absolutley despise of people mistreat/abandon animals.

 If only we could have another...But we could really do without yet another female cat!

EDIT: Is she getting treatment for what looks like the poss cat flu? Weepy eyes/nose don't look too good a sign

That's just a bit of excess milk from her last feed! She'll be going back to the vets with my daughter later, so I'm sure they'll check her out.

Thanks for all the good wishes folks. She's doing fine at the moment, but still a way to go. I'll update this thread when there's any change.

There's deff 'gunk' going on there but, fingers crossed the vets give her the all clear, please keep us updated on this babe, I for one would love to see her progress and blossom, and be a norty kitten like she should!

Sorry to hear aout her siblings, but keeping fingers crossed that Dora makes it. Well done to all your (collective) hard work. Looking forward to more pics and updates.

Dora is currently snuggled up to my wife inside her dressing gown. When I come back I want to be a cat...

I think we might have the first Talkphotography adopted kitten.
You realise that we will have to have regular updates on her for the rest of her life!

Oh and bloody good job by the way. :)

Quick update: Dora had a good night and is fit and well this morning.

Gorgeous though she is, she won't be staying. Once she's fit and strong enough she'll be going to a new home. Three cats and one dog is more than enough!

Oh, and she's still going strong, getting better by the moment.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Just wait til you are properly "attached" you no doubt find that you really DO have room for one more tiny wee kitty :)

Sorry to hear some of them didn't make it, but good on you for trying, and fingers crossed for Dipsy/Dora :)

:agree: And as you say they did not ask to be born, blame the usual irresponsible people

Just a quick update: Dora's gaining weight well (50g in a week). Planning to start on solids soon. Very playful.

Final update: Sorry for the bump.

Dora's fit and well, and off to her new family next weekend :'( ;)

Final pic.

Looking very healthy now. The gleam in her eyes says it all. Well done! :)

Just seen this thread for the first time, Fantastic Job!!!! you should be very proud of yourselves

Thanks, but it's my daughter I'm really proud of. She's the one who did all the hard work.

We met her new parents over the weekend (someone who works with my better half). All I can say is that she's going to be one spoilt kitty!

Thanks again to everyone for their good wishes.

I somehow missed this thread first time round, but I'm glad that it's had a happy ending for Dora.
It's such a shame about the other 3, but you and your family should be proud of doing such a great job with her.

As for the sort of irresponsible idiot who would abandon 4 kittens in a box :bat: . . . well it's probably left unsaid on a public forum.

ohhh look at her mischievous eyes.. they are going to have fun with her :-))

well done, what a nice ending for dora.. bet you'll all miss her!
