I want one, talk me out of it, tell me they are bad and there are better and cheaper alternatives.
(do they ever go on sale?)

It depends on the price and if it can accept attachments.
We have a Kenwood Chef with a number of attachments ( blender, Juicer, Mincer).
Compare the Kitchen Aid to the Kenwood before you splash the cash.
The Kitchen Aid is better than the Kenwood. Takes a myriad of attachments via the power take off on its "nose". If you're not in a hurry, keep an eye out for special offers on them - ours was under £400 (by some margin) when I bought it and had a couple of freebies as "send away" offers; the cookbook and an ice cream making set (bowl and beater).
@Raymond Lin I have used Harts of Stur several times for Kitchen Aid products https://www.hartsofstur.com/kitchen-electricals/mixers.html usually quite competitive on price
Where do you normally see them on offer?
I got one of them kitchen aid things ,she’s sat in the armchair watching t.v at the moment
A Kenwood of today is not the same quality as a Kenwood 20 years ago, unfortunately. Our Kenwood Chef is still going strong over twenty years on.
No plastic I can see and power drives rear and nose which take all sorts of attachments.
Not sure what more we could have wanted from it or how much improvement the extra outlay would have provided.
