Kingfisher at Rye Meads

I'm thinking of going over to Rye Meads to see the kingfishers. Has anyone been lately and can advise the distance from hide to perch? I'm going to be taken a 300 f2.8 and 2x TC so 900mm effective focal length on a crop nikon DSLR. Will this combi still be too short? I'm not expecting frame fillers and more environment images of kingfisher perched on a stick/post.

Im watching kingfishers else where at the minute and the closest I can get to one of their favourite fishing spots is 18 meters. With a 150-500 sigma I am struggling as they are still very small in the frame, would love a faster lens to help shutter speed.

I've seen some great pics of kingfishers taken there recently with a 400mm on a Canon 5DIII (full frame). I'm not sure how much they were cropped though. They were shared on Facebook.

amen my brother lol ive seen some picture of my local kingfishers with 300mm lens but i have yet to see a kingfisher
