Does anyone know anything about this, i'm thinking of upgrading my Kindle at Christmas, and was looking at the Fire and then i came across this which seems to suit my needs better

First ones were delivered on Thursday.

I really like mine, much more readable than the previous Kindle mainly because the background is white not grey (as the name suggests). Good control of the lighting for different levels of ambient light. Seems pretty good in bright sunlight too.

Battery life is claimed to be unaffected and I haven't managed to dent the battery yet but it's early days.

I used to have the basic model and I actually prefer the hardware buttons to move forward and backward, but that's personal taste.

All in all I'm really happy I got one. I don't really need or want the extras that come with the Fire. Certainly not at the expense of the easy-on-the-eyes screen that the paperwhite has.

Thanks thats brilliant, i have a kindle 2 that the power supply connection is going a bit dodgy on, and i like the idea of the built in light, have you used this yet?

Have you had a look at a kobo?

No, and if i'm honest i love my kindle so wouldn't, i've had my current one 2 years and use it daily, so have absolutely no complaints with it, the conection on the bottom does need a jiggle but thats it, the only reason i am looking to upgrade is i fancy the built in light

The PaperWhite, in combination with the special cover that switches it on/off (like the iPad cover) is quite simply delicious. The only thing I didn't like about my older Kindle was that it was difficult to use in dim light. Even with the special cover with a built-in flippy-out light there was always glare, and it didn't quite light the bottom of the page.

I've been using it every night since Thursday and it's still on the first battery charge.

so definately worth it then, looks like that's my chrissy pressy sorted, like i say i have no complaints with the original one, would just be better for reading in the van when OH is driving (currently use my head torch) and the caravan etc
