First ones were delivered on Thursday.
I really like mine, much more readable than the previous Kindle mainly because the background is white not grey (as the name suggests). Good control of the lighting for different levels of ambient light. Seems pretty good in bright sunlight too.
Battery life is claimed to be unaffected and I haven't managed to dent the battery yet but it's early days.
I used to have the basic model and I actually prefer the hardware buttons to move forward and backward, but that's personal taste.
All in all I'm really happy I got one. I don't really need or want the extras that come with the Fire. Certainly not at the expense of the easy-on-the-eyes screen that the paperwhite has.
Have you had a look at a kobo?
The PaperWhite, in combination with the special cover that switches it on/off (like the iPad cover) is quite simply delicious. The only thing I didn't like about my older Kindle was that it was difficult to use in dim light. Even with the special cover with a built-in flippy-out light there was always glare, and it didn't quite light the bottom of the page.
I've been using it every night since Thursday and it's still on the first battery charge.
