Kinda stuck with getting Raw .CR2 files with OSX 10.6.8

Starting to get a bit peeved now, i have tried everything but no matter what i do i am still getting "file not supported" errors when i try to get my Macbook Pro to ingest raw files from my 450D.

I have downloaded the raw camera support from apple, and have tried opening raw files in both Aperture 2 and Lightroom 3 and no joy?

Has anyone experienced this? my Macbook is a little old now thinking of getting a new one is the only way, as they work fine on a friends PC.

Basics first it has been supported since 10.6, no need to get a new macbook just for that

Do the files work in finder and preview? You may want to reapply the camera raw updates and don't forget to repair permissions.
