Hi all,

I'm looking at a studio/darkroom set up in our workshop. It's a wooden shed bout 10'x25' double skinned wood, it's been a workshop for 6 years and a single skinned shed for ages before that and has a substantial spider infestation. I intend to make the place sealed and actually clean and before I start want everything DEAD as dead.

Whats good, I think a bomb of some description like a flea bomb?

David

Hold the door open just enough to put your arm through and empty a can of Raid fly killer. Close door when finished and let death take its course.

I want more stuff dead than that, some live between the inner and outer skin among the fiber glass and are bigger than my hand

.................:naughty:................10 pints of Guinness, 1 special chilli kebab................6hrs later go in, fart n run:nuts:

So use more cans. And it kills more than just flies. All spiders.

Call them out one by one. Tie them to a post, blindfold them, count to ten and have a firing squad handy :D

May be an idea to seek advice from the Council's pest control people.
Even if you had to pay them a few quid it could be worth it.

Last thing you want is to move all your kit in and all the horrors reappear out of the wood work.

Ok so technical ( pestie) head on
Spiders are not insects they are Arachnids
so a good arachnicide is what you need here.
Insecticides will of course work up to a point
but the COSHH label on insecticides will say for insect use only.

A registered pestie is the best bet for something like this.
Will cost but may well cost you less than DIY jobs.

HOWEVER there is a product on the market that is totally natural
not a single chemical in sight, that I believe can be bought by the general public,
I suggest that you look up and do a little research on
"Diatomaceous earth" ( dust) this consists of fossilised remains of diatoms,
a type of hard-shelled algae, that is razor sharp and cuts insects and the like,
and draws out their body fluids almost instantaneously.

now I'm not fussed about them coming back as I intend to fill and paper the whole place but I don't wanna have guests for the coupla days I'm moving stuff and papering/filling ect. Will a fleabomb bodge me for a spell while I put this special cutty stuff on the ways in?

:puke:

I don't suppose they do one for ex-wives to they?

Possibly, try and get something with "Permethrin" or "pyrethrum"

But I think that I read that right?
its double skinned? if so, there are so many cracks and crevices for the
little buggers to hide between the layers,
You would probably be better off using a fine sprayer ( a 5 litre jobby) with soapy water
(and soak everywhere)
this will irritate and drive them out of their hiding places,
being rather "viscous" it will also drown them.

smoke bombs kill (almost) instantly but have no residual effect
that is its a "one hit wonder"

Not yet but apparently there is one under development
( you wouldn't believe the amount of times I have been asked that )

Tbh I dont think you need to be killing things just because. You could quite easily clad out and seal, but lets be honest if it is in an old workshop what do you plan on doing to stop further intruders

If you want to take on the mighty army of our little freinds then you could try this, so long as you realise all you will be doing in the long run, is throwing money out the window before they run out of reinforcements :lol: http://www.trademart.in/product-DE_VISHUKAUSHAL0028373.html

thankyou very much cobra, I literally want a quick clean clear before I get in there and empty the place out then seal u all the insides (it was set up as a workshop so the gaos between the boards are up to an inch apart) :D

smoke sounds like the kitty cat for that and a fly killer so they have no reason to come back long term

I don't like the idea of killing spiders really. I was always told that spiders get rid of all manner of other pests, so have always treated them as friends.
Can you still buy sulphur bombs Cobra? We used to use them for infested houses when I was still at the sparky game. They kill everything IIRC.

I don't either (like killing spiders) you are quite correct they are successful predators of other less favourable species
I also leave any webs in the mews ( hawk house ) keeps the flies down in the summer, but obviously not "pretty" for a studio though

Sulphur bombs I am sure were "banned" many years ago
the strongest professional smoke generator contains Permethrin 13 odd %
and potassium Chlorate circa 10 %

occasionally it is available on the open market ( but it really shouldn't be)
if you do get it be extremely careful its a neurotoxin,
kills just about anything ( crawling and flying insects that is) in seconds!

let them be in the sheds and just pick em up in the house, but the issue is the moving of a lot of crap in there and I kinda want the help of my squeamish sister :D

If I were in your position I'd be sealing the shed up and making sure to cover any areas that they could seek refuge. A fair bit of Raid will kill off everything in there and once you've got furniture in, don't leave the doors open for things to get in.

Something for getting infestations out of buildings....

You need a Shmel!

Works a charm.
