Yes
I've just imported all my photos into lightroom and now need to start weeding out the rubbish photos and keywording them.

I'm still a bit unsure about keywording and wanted to see if i'm doing things right or any suggestions would be great.

My photos consists mainly of my daughter along with family members. So i thought of doing something like this,

Location
----Home
----Park
----London
----HK
----Manchester
People
----Me
----Mummy
----Aeryn
------1yrs
------2yrs
----Grandparents

(please ignore the ----'s)
So when i get a photo of my daughter i key word it with i.e. Home, 1yrs, Aeryn. Should i also put in the keywords Location and People into the photo? Also Am i making things complicated by putting too many keywords.

Yeah I would just put anything in that springs to mind, but have some definitive set keywords like youve mentioned above. Like a standardisation.

I don't think putting lots of keywords in will complicate things, as long as you have your core standard keywords.

Exactly... use however many keywords you need to easily locate any of your images. Lightroom will then index them and make them easily retrievable for you whenever you need to see them.

Perhaps start with a set of keywords as a standard template set, and include one of those in each image; then add more keywords as you feel the need. I guess it all depends how many images you intend to store yeah...:)

Thanks everyone for your input. I think i will spend a bit more time to decide on my template before I start keywording my 1,800 photos. This is going to take a long time and hopefully i'll be able to chuck out the rubbish ones too.
