If you had bought this last month you could have used one of those Canon cashback vouchers and got £70 back on the 17-40.

Neil - just a thought - what about the Sigma 12-24 and the 24-105 L? Almost identical in terms of IQ (OK, the Canon has a slight edge, but it is slight in term sof build quality).

Won't save you much, but will save you some and gives you more at the wide end.......
 
I got to play with a 17-40L yesterday and it is VERY nice! lovely lens! I want one now :( Would be a nice replacement for my kit lens :D

Would have love to put this on a card before Christmas, but just didnt have the cash and it seems I don't have it right now either.
Trying to juggle what I have first, rather than buy and then sort it out.

Nice Idea about the 12-24, it would give me a little more wide angle, but I just can't take my eyes of the 17-40 :)
