Hi

Ive read the threads on teleconverters but am still unsure.

My son has offered to get me a X2 converter for Christmas, I just want to know if the Kenko Teleplus DG 2X MC7 Teleconverter, is any good to use with my sigma 70-300 DG lens, any advice please

Dave

You will lose autofocus using that lens and a 2X converter. Is is a HSM Sigm a lens, as my Nikon camera/Sigma HSM lens/Kenko converter combo really didn't play happy together. It would crash the camera if used in autofocus mode. In the end I just splashed out and got the Sigma 2X converter.

Hi

which one the Kenko PRO 300 AF Teleconverter, for Christmas which should I get the X2 @£109 Here
or the X3 @ £119,Here

has anyone any experience with any of those converters?

the lens i will be using it with is a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro, Here

also has anyone ordered anything from microglobe how was their service?

any help please appreciated

TIA

Dave

Hi Dave, I'm not sure if it will work with that lens, but if you want the x2 Kenko pro 300 I have one for sale here.

If you must have one go for the 2X, the loss of light that the 3X causes will make your Sigma lens pretty much unusable with the widest f/stop about f8.6 at full zoom. Also the image quality will suffer greatly especially with the Sigma lens being soft at the long end anyway.

Hi Dave, I use a kenko pro 1.4x converter and it gives great results, i'm not sure i'd go for any more reach due to the losses in f stops, but if the light is good you should be fine.

I'm not as technically minded as most of the guys on here but I had a loan of a tele convertor (can't remember the maker) to try out on the same lens. I found that the sigma 70-300 would'nt autofocus, all focusing had to be done manually. Although the subject was brought closer the quality was not too clever unless you had really good light so I decided to do without.
