Hello all.
I`ve just progressed from a bridge camera to the heady heights of a Nikon D7000. At present i`m just taking photos of whatever takes my fancy and getting used to the basic functions of the camera.
What sort of notes should i be keeping to get the best out of my photography? No two situations are ever the same.
Thanks.

Hi John, welcome to TP

Your camera will automatically keep the most important note - the shooting data, which will be recorded in the exif data. Beyond that, what do you need?

Just to expand on what Jon said.
You already have
Date, Time
Camera, Lens, Focal length
Shooting mode
Aperture, shutter speed iso
Flash information
Focus point selected and method of selection
Focus distance (not all lenses provide this)

The only notes you'd need would be subject and location, and there are ways to get GPS data for the location if you have a smartphone.

Compared to shooting film it's a whole other world, and for me the reason that you can improve much quicker than in the film days. (I'm not the type to make notes, it took a long time to learn from my mistakes with film).
