clone out blurry bits in background...i know its supposed to be good having a 'bouquet'...:)
but distinct shapes can distract, and light areas as well...
anything near the edge which isnt important should be removed
your subject needs to be the only thing which attracts attention
cropping isnt a crime..plenty of Mp to play around with and the formats
3:2 and 4:3 arent cut in stone

thanks for the comments, it does look better with all the crap out of the way, i did take a portrait version of it, maybe have a look and poss change.(if thats allowed)

I think the portrait version will work better.

Of course you can change it, it's your half 52

Welcome aboard Ian
Good to have you here, and looking forward to seeing this week's shot.

As for beginnings, you've started things off well.
Love the subject choice, and it's a lovely sharp, detailed image.
Would really like to see your portrait version - there's definitely a really good image there with a slight tweak to the framing as MrCrow's version demonstrated.

dont be cramped by the sensor or crop sizes...
not all good photographs are 3:2 or 4:3

get the composition and supporting detail right...make that the format

art is a bit late due to bloomin sky broadband, hopefully now sorted.

and relaxing. cropped

Art - you've obviously had fun with this and I like the result - colours and swirls work well and the DOF is just right.

Relaxation - a lovely portrait of a lovely dog. However, it doesn't look completely relaxed to me - the expression in the eyes suggests that it might suddenly leap up at me -- WRRRRRUFFFFF!

Pssst . . . You need to change the title in thread 1 (still showing as week 26) ;)

:D Art made me smile.
PP gone a bit mad and it's verging on no longer being a photograph . . . not in a bad way though. There's something very appealing about this one.

And I just love your relaxation shot.
What a beautiful dog
For me, there's just a bit too much foreground, so could maybe do with a crop - but I like this a lot, and I know that dogs aren't easy to photograph.

those week 27 and 28's are cool
i like the whirl...its like a cadbury's advert...who owns them now?

To change the title in post 1, click the edit button, click advanced and you can amend the title.

Beginning, I like it, it's a good idea. I think it would have been better with a slight change in angle to move the blurred twig (??) from so close behind it. Also, perhaps position the fern a little further to the right. Love to see the portrait version, just add it in. As for being allowed to change. This is a project, rather than a competition, and it's your project, so you can change as you want.

Art, I love it, very colourful and arty. It's bordering on not being a photo anymore, but that's fine.

Relaxation, a very relaxed looking dog and it fits the theme nicely. I agree with Sarah, perhaps cropping off the bottom of the image. There's a little blown spot on the tail, but it's not distracting. The only thing I'd suggest is, and whilst the very low angle works really well for the image of the dog, I'd be tempted to try and clone out that bar along the top of the skirting board.

Interesting go at Art, i quite like what you have done here and the colours are fabulous.
Relaxation, brilliant this just made me smile at the end of a hard day. That's a quality composition and i like the dof on the foreground.

thanks for all the comments and criticism, i have reworked beggining and relaxed. so see what you think.

regards

Ian

Both the photos in post 8 I love, I like the twisted effect, of the flower, it adds an interesting edge to a image we have seen before and the photogaph of the dog has really captures the moment it says "you don't want to go for another flipping walk do you!" the colours are very nicely done.

Bearing in mind your her father you'll have to give me a minute to clear my mind of it current thoughts and think of new ones.... Sorry just winding you up! :D

Its a very nice photo, at first I didn't like the vertical depth of feild on the photo because its not how we are used to looking at images in that way. and we are used to the blur giving us cues about depth preseption,

However I can see that the background how be distracting, the only thing I could sugget is setting a fast shutter speed to underexspose the background and using your flash to illumante her. but that introduces new problems.

Or a much more shallow depth of feild

Hope that helps.

this was taken at the black country museum, to be self critical i should have moved to loose the bench.

I hadn't really noticed the bench until you mentioned it Ian. The eye is firmly drawn where you've intended on a very poignant list.

Now you have mentioned it though ;)

Hi Ian.
Your shot for grace fits the theme perfectly - reminds me of my old gymnastic days when I was a LOT younger than I am now.

It's a beautifully sharp image and you've caught a great pose. But a step to the right so that her face wasn't obscured by her arm would help with the composition. I'm also not too keen on the blurring on either side. I can see why you've done it, but it doesn't quite work for me. I think I'd prefer it in its original state and just live with the busy background.

Endings is a very poignant shot and perfect for the theme. I hadn't noticed the bench either until you pointed it out!
A very minor niggle, but for me the Poppies could do with being a bit darker - Try dragging the red channel down a bit on your B&W conversion.

I`ll keep my mouth shut next time lol

can i do that in elements 4?

Hi Ian, you've slipped into the 52 under my radar, so I'm sorry I haven't commented before. :)

Beginnings: A lovely clear shot with great detail in the fern and the leaf. Version #1 works well for me, although I think I'd have removed the leaf and let the fern speak for itself. I like the negative space on the left. Equally I think a tighter crop in portrait mode would look good. The blurred stalk in version 2 is a bit distracting, but I like the edit in your next post - rules are there to be broken, so the ratio that works is king! :D

Art: I love this - it's definitely in the realms of art for me. When I first looked at it I thought it looked like a flower dancing ..... and that was before I'd seen your beautiful daughter in a ballet-like pose for Grace. Perhaps she was your subconscious inspiration for art. :)

Relaxation: Ahhhh - he (she?) is sooo cute, and the expression in his eyes is saying 'I might look relaxed, but don't be fooled - say the word biscuit and I'll be up like a shot!' Black and white fur isn't easy to photograph and you've managed to get really good detail in his coat.

Grace: I agree with the comments about the background, but you were between a rock and hard place in that situation - ditto with the angle. But tbh, she is so beautiful and extremely graceful I don't think it matters. I bet you felt vry proud of her. :)

Endings: Very poignant and fitting for the theme. I won't mention the bench, either - I really didn't notice it. The b&w works well and is appropriate for the subject. I would like to be able to read the message attached to the poppy wreath, but perhaps it had faded anyway. I good take on the theme. :)

thanks for all your comments jean.

Catching up...

Grace: I can see why you tried to blur some of the bg but I think it would be better if you just accepted it as part of the occasion. Your daughter is so beautiful and graceful that she carries the picture anyway. You must be very proud of her.

Endings: I don't think I would have noticed the bench if you hadn't mentioned it. But you'll remember the next time. The PP really suits it - a moving shot.
