Just wondering if this would work.

Yes
Could you replace a flash with LED lights for macro type photography. I am thinking of water splash type images where a constant light would let you shoot at a high frame rate. Some of you may be thinking this is a stupid question - and for that I apologise. I realise that it would probably require a high ISO but with noise reduction software that may not be a problem. I really have no idea if this is feasible and this is the quickest (and cheapest)way to find out.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I've never tried but . . .

Water splash photography needs either an incredibly short shutter speed or an incredibly short flash duration (which is why people use hotshoe flashgun at very low power settings, to achieve these very short flashes.

If a continuous light works at all, that is if you can increase the ISO sufficiently to obtain the correct exposure, my guess is that the shutter speed on your camera would still be way too slow to create a sharp image. But, there's no reason not to try - except of course that flash is easier anyway, as well as being known to work.

The only issue not mentioned already is that fast shutter speeds will mean the LED light will be a different colour in consecutive frames.

Where LED lights are successful, we have to be careful to use a shutter speed slow enough to record the whole cycle.

No is the simple answer with water drops. There are several YT video tutorials on this that show exactly why it needs a very short duration flash as Garry has said.

In other kinds of Macro work they can be used, but as Phil pointed out you have to be careful with the shutter speed.
