Hi folks, i have just got my hands on a second hand e520 with 14-42 and 40-150 lenses with 2 batteries - charger and infared remote for £230. Tha camera has a shutter count of 1650 !!!! so it has plenty of life left in it.
I am hoping to see a marked improvement over my HS10 bridge camera which is a terrific little bridge camera.
I know there will be a steep learning curve , but are there any 520 users who can give me any tips or advice on getting the best out of my new camera.

Gheers :thumbs::thumbs:

What a bargain! I think the advice you need is not going to be Olympus specific.

I'd recommend learning the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, aperture (f-stop).

Also important to understand the uses and dangers of slow / fast shutter speeds, how shutter speed relates to 'hand-holdability' and the effect of aperture on depth of field.

I thought i had bagged a bargain too !!!!:thumbs:
The HS10 did allow the use of aperture and shutter priority but the aperture range is somewhat limited. I am hoping the glympus will allow me more freedom of settings etc.

You most definitely have a bargain there, and a cracking little camera with two of the best kit lenses on the market. :clap:

I should know...I have the e510 and e520, and they are superb!

Can I suggest that you join us over at the Olympus UK forum? Lovely bunch of guys and a very active and friendly forum.

There are several members using e520's and you'll never go short of help and advice.

I look forward to seeing some of the results from your new camera!

Janet

Phil I recommend you use A mode with the 40-150 zoom and set aperture to wide open (F4 to F5.6) and take loads of photos.
I prefer to use Vivid for the great colours and especially nice sky colour, Jpeg of course : Olympus Jpegs can be beautiful.
Good lenses, dependable body, great colours.
