Yes
I just ordered Aperture 3 today. Obviously I have heard a few problems have been had, so am wondering if there are any hints or tips people have discovered, or have read that will make the transition as smooth as possible.

Just hoping it can be nice and smooth. So that said (and probably jinxed) how did you find it, and have you read anything that I should definitely be doing?

No, you can use your Aperture 2 library, though the general advice going around is to make a backup of your old library just in case.

3's had some memory leak issues and it does a couple of annoying things at first, like processing all your photos for a few hours so that they load quicker (which eats up CPU) - holding down shift and opening Aperture stops the app from running the processing command. It also automatically runs a face detection command on your entire library. This can be switched off in preferences.

Also, hold down command and option right after clicking on the Aperture icon and run a repair permission and a repair database - took about 10-minutes on my 120GB library and now everything is running fine.

Hey Carl, I just make a full backup of the library file... I've never got on with app-managed backup systems. Carbon copy cloner on my mac once a week is enough for me.
