If you remember this thread i did back in July about stuff being stolen and our polytunnel damaged then this is an update.

A few months later one of the sheds got broken into and they stole the blokes rotavator, smashed the locks on the door ect and broke the lock to the main gates of the allotment, they ended up lifting it over a fence and out the woods next door.

We got a phone call the other week from the police saying they have the bloke who did it  he was there for other things he had done but when asked if he had done anything else ( something to do with getting less time for admitting what else he had done instead of being caught out later) he admitted our polytunnel and the rotavator! Hes a 18 year old out of the city.

Not sure if we will hear anymore but they said he was looking at 2 years for whatever he had done, think it was burguling homes. Theres a chance we could claim from him for a new cover for the polytunnel but will have to wait and see.

So there we go!

You could claim for the tunnel cover and you might even get it awarded by the court BUT the little scrote will probably get 10 years to pay it off and will probably rob/burgle others to raise the cash. More likely, he'll ignore the court order and just slash your tunnel out ofr spite. Probably better to find out his name and address and brick his front door up!

i would ask to meet the **** , and ask him why , just to see him wriggle !!! :bang:

Frankly I doubt there would be any wriggling on his part

Having met the sort of people that live a life like this rarely do they care.

Hope you get some compensation for it Lisa

That's right - getting caught and what passes for punishment is just an occpational hazard.
Be amazed if he gets anything like 2 years.

Glad they caught the little ****. Out of interest, what city is it? (I'm from the East Mids, before I joined the green-machine)

A few years ago my sister had her wing mirror knocked off by some scrote, he was caught on CCTV and arrested, he was prosecuted found guilty and ordered to pay the £90 it cost to fix + court costs.

My sister never got a penny from him, she asked a few times and they said they'd chase it up, the last time she asked the reply was he'd moved and they'd lost contact with him

It's been 5 years now so I wouldn't hold your breath the courts will get you any money

If I was prime minister any crime commited beyond a certain level would be punishable by having your knee caps smashed in :p.... that's probably why I am not prime minister.

As others have said, you are unlikely to receive compensation from a criminal court. They can make the order, but then if the defendant can't pay, you'll end up with some derisory amount spread over a number of years.

I'm apparently owed around £150 in compensation orders from two assaults in the course of my duties over the last couple of years, and I've never seen a penny. You can pursue it through a civil court as well, but they'll be in the same position.

Nottingham.

Thanks all, i know its unlikely to get anything and still we would have to wait for the police to be in touch again when he has been done, so that prob wont happen anyway!

Def agree we need to sort better ways to punish these people :bat:

Strange as it sounds, the police probably won't be told the result either. I normally only find out the results of my cases by either a) ringing the court directly or b) pleading with the witness service to ring the court for me.

As for hard labour on the allotment, sadly, it just doesn't happen. And even if it did, he'd still be burgling places by night. Prison works much better
