As the title says, I saw my first kingfisher on Saturday, not just a flash of blue, but a clear sighting.
A Big But here, I did not have my camera with me.

It was in a bush and was spooked either by some magpies or Mr Dudley over on the left <----
It flew along a small stream and round the corner, the blue and orange clearly visible.

I did not think they liked the stream in question as the bank is overgrown and floods quite often.

Only taken 60 years.

Ps also saw the residant egret.

Thanks for reading

Pete

Great to see it and if it's been there it will most likely come again, if you can get to put out a perch for him you may well be able to get some pics ... if you remember the camera and forget the dog! :D

I saw my first one a few years ago, then for the next two years I couldn't stop seeing them, even on unlikely stretches of river. Then I haven't seen one since!

I observed my first Kingfisher at Potteric Carr nature reserve some years ago. I watched it sat on a fallen branch over a drain for 20 minutes before someone came along with a scope. I pointed it out to them and they got the scope on it.
I had been observing a packet of Cheese and Onion crisps. I wondered why it hadn't moved.
I bought some new bins shortly after. lol

Haha nice one!

I saw my first one in Hemel Hempstead town centre in the early 80's, didn't see another one for over 30 years :(

*but now got some photos :D

Saw one this morning as I walked along the Wey Navigation from New Haw up to Weybridge. Flew ahead and landed on a branch on the opposite side. As I walked level it flew a bit further ahead and did the same. Did this repeatedly. I had my camera but only a short lens on. Shame - best view I have had for a while.

I must be lucky as I have a couple of locations in our village that I can see a kingfisher and very rarely fail to spot one
