Afternoon marras,

Having gatecrashed several other peoples welcome forum threads, it's just dawned on me that I haven't actually introduced myself!!?? :cuckoo: Anyway here goes, I live in North Manchester (though my roots lie in West Cumbria), and frequent several other non photography related forums under the guise of candlestickchimney (it wouldn't let me have enough letters on here!!). I bought a 400D before Christmas, with some wedding budget money that should have been paying for a camcorder, after convincing the missus we needed an SLR, even though I'd never used one before. I am learning about photography slowly, through googling tech speak used on here and reading magazines, though I could probably do with a personal teacher or summat!!!?? :help: I feel I've got to grips with how to adjust the hundreds of camera settings, but have little idea on how to compose or take a half decent picture, so please be prepared for a weekly 'stupid' question from me!!?? :bonk:

Err that's about it.... errm.... my Xbox live gamertag is KINGOFPRESTWICH if there are any gamers on here and I'm a qualified squash coach if anybody wants free lessons!!??

Hi there welcome

My advice for what it's worth.......

Look up the "rule of thirds" on google which will help you uderstand what "makes" a good image. That is how I started with composition.

Next, there's lots of great books too. My favourite being "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen.

This explains how to get your camera out of Auto modes and reach the freedom of using your camera in manual - Really not that difficult. A great book on the camera exposure system. The book explores how you make your photography more creative too.
