Hi all,
I finally got my hands on a Canon 1d mark iii today. It is quite a step up for me.

The reason i'm posting here is that i know there a few people on the forums here that have this camera.I need help with auto focusing please.I can't get my lenses to auto focus.Do you have to macro adjustements for this? Also does the camers beep like the 5d mark ii or 40/50d when focus is locked on? I have it turned on incamera but it doesn'r beep.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as always....:)

Have you bought it second-hand?

If so the previous owner may have set the camera to back-button autofocus so it would not autofocus using the half press of the shutter button but instead focuses when you press the "AF-ON" button on that back of the camera.

Also the beep can be turned on or off in the menus. So it just depends how this camera has been set up.

Hope this helps.

AF Servo doesnt beep either, has to be in single shot mode.

Tom,

Thank's very much for the help.Tried all this and still no joy.Don't know what to do now...

Hmm strange. Only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is to clean the contacts on both lens and body.

Other than that the only other thing I can think of is to get it checked out at your local camera shop.

Hope you sort it out.

I'm presuming the lens is set to AF?

A long shot....

You can't AF without having a memory card installed if <shoot without memory card> is set to 'No'

Have you tried another lens? I know it sounds stupid.

a 'live video feed' would work wonders in this instance wouldn't it... you can imagine people sat at home typing in instructions for Ciaran to try.

Not that i have ever ever ever typed instructions or things to try to someone on a live video feed of course!! :bonk:

Just going through the online instructions here lads.Got them from lensprotogo.com...:)

All sorted now lads.Thank's very much,i really appreciate everyone'shelp to get me up and running.....

Noooo it doesnt work like that.. You have to say what the problem is/was :)

Was it a flat battery? :D

We must know the answer!!!
Seriously though, it's been bugging me. Please put me out of my misery and tell us what was up?

I bought the camera secondhand lads.I should have said so first.Sorry.

I reckon it was setup for back focusing. So i cleared all the previous settings in camers and started from scratch. If i remember rightly i got the camera focusing from the setting C.FnIII:Autofocus/Drive.

I panicked a small part when i got it home and it wouldn't focus first time. That was the reason i posted here on TP,a great place with lots of friendly advice and help....
