Hello folks,

Just ordered : http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0056E49MK :)

Anyone else have and use this already just wondering what they think?

I'm fairly new to DSLR photography so I thought it would be better to start at the cheaper end first and see how things progress.

Any info on this lens would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven.

Good price and a very good budget lens - I had one of these and it served me well.

When I first started with a 450D, and wanted a bit more reach, this lens was what I bought. Excellent value for money and served me well for over a year. It produces very good images for the money

PS one of these has just come up for sale in the classifieds. A bit cheaper than a new one

Oh well, I've bought the thing now anyway.

Once I've been a member long enough or made enough posts I'll be able to check the classifieds :)

I think there's one going for about £90 in the classifieds at the minute, it's always nice to get something brand new though :)

I have the exact lens myself, it's nice for reaching in a bit and can even get a nice landscape if required! Well, it did for me yesterday :)

Mine's on my 550 most of the time - it's lighter than my 150-500!

Thanks guys, good to know that I've bought something I will get my money's worth from.

@Josh nice pic btw

This is probably the best budget zoom for a Canon crop. Good range, good IS, even the IQ is good (although mine needed stopping down to sharp at the long end). The lens is also nice and light, and doesn't attract unwanted attention like my silly white L's. It offers 80% of 70-300L range and performance for less than 20% of the money.

I bought a 55-250 IS for a 550D and 7D but I'd only had it a couple of weeks before I got a 5D MkII and gave the 550D to the wife. She then proceeded to liberate my 55-250 and I only got to use it a few times as it was almost always strapped to the 550D. Great lens, you should get some great photos from it. You did pay a bit too much for it though, I'd suggest you have a look at www.panamoz.com for your gear in the future, you get great service and a great price too. Enjoy shooting with it though.

Or you may prefer to pay a little more for the knowledge that you're covered by UK consumer law, rather than having to chase any disputes through the Hong Kong court system.

For £20 you may as well get it here, save importing for the stuff thats really worth it - when you save £100's

loved my 55-250 used it for a long time before i moved onto the 70-200L lens one tip don't forget to warm up the IS it takes like half a sec to kick in for best results

I didn't actually pay the price suggested in the link, I managed to get it for £140 from Amazon, not sure why the price has gone back up???

Great choice. I also bought the 55-250mm less than a year ago. Reason being i wanted a zoom lens with good reach but not having the budget for a 70-200 etc.

I think of it as sort of an "intro" to tele-photo ... hahah!

Hi Steven

Bought the Canon 55-250IS for my daughter and she loves it, gets very good shots with it.

Enjoy your new purchase
