Yes
I've been reading and reading all the threads on here trying to help me decide whether or not I should upgrade to a 7D from my trusty 450D.

Concluded that I don't really 'need' to upgrade, but would really 'like' to, so have given in to 'upgradeitis' and have hit the button to buy! Have just sent my order off to Kerso, seeing as everyone has good things to say about him and that, although a US import, Canon UK will provide warranty cover should it be needed, which was an important factor when considering how much the camera costs and that I don't like to be without my stuff for too long.

Will post some thoughts up as and when I've got it in my hands and have done some comparisons with the 450D, just in case anyone's interested. I know that there's already loads of threads on this (otherwise how would I have made my mind up?!?), but I guess another point of view won't harm! Also my way of saying thanks for the excellent threads and info already on the forums.

 nothing like a bit of upgradeitis!, and whilst I have not had any dealings with Kerso (being a nasty Penty user!) some friends on here have done and have all been extremely happy!

Congratulations. I'd download the pdf version of the manual and start reading up on the AF and movie mode while I wait for it to arrive.

Dan, I suggest you print off and become extremely familiar with this document
http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3049
it's an invaluable guide to the autofocus system, and tells the way Canon think it should work.....it doesn't always however!!

It has quite a complex autofocus setup and repays a bit of effort and study....RTFM and this article and you'll start to understand what it does.

Hope this helps,
George

ps Ian Kerr (Kerso) is first class, lots of us bought too much gear from him!!!

He does Pentax gear as well.

Really? Hmmm.........:clap::clap::clap:

You should not have told me that... :nono: :shake:

Calling Kerso.................

I`m also thinking of upgrading to a 7D from a 50D which i`ve been really happy with but as is the norm I got to get the funds together as I`ve just bought yesterday a new lens 100-400mm IS L and only 6 weeks ago I also bought 70-200mm F2.8 IS L, I think my Missus might hit the roof if I came home with a new Camera as well,I suppose I could do her in and then claim on the life insurance and get the camera........thats got me thinking

thanks for the tips guys. I'm going into hospital for an op tomorrow, so should have plenty of spare time to do some reading, so will read both the manual and the AF article.

A wonderful thing is 'upgrade-itis'. I've gone from a 400D to a 450D, a 500D and now a 550D. I've also changed my Canon 17-85mm lens for the 15-85mm. Boy it feels good, especially when you're told you have more money than sense, and you just go 'Yup!!'

you've got it bad Ray!

i've been spending money on lenses too - Tokina 12-24, Canon 24-105L & Canon 70-200 L. Canon 100-400L is also on the shopping list, but will have to wait for a while thanks to the 7D purchase :D

FWIW I went the exact same route from a 450D to a 7D. I have not regretted it once and like to think my photography has come on a bit since getting it. my keeper rate for wildlife, especially birds and BIF has markedly increased.

As above, you need to get to grips with the focussing variables which will depend on what you shoot. Once you know how it works, you wont look back I sure
