Just got lightroom 2 any tips on starting

Hi ive just got lightroom 2 and was looking to ask for some help in the VERY BASICS of starting it. I have put in a picture and had a quick play then closed it but upon opening up again the picture is still there is there a way to stop this or should i be finding this feature useful?

I understand that i should now create a file in my pictures called lightroom and one on my hardrive called the same so that all pictures from now on can go into this file and be backed up on the hard drive am i right?

a good guide/tips from the very begining is probably what im looking for but all your help advice would be appreciated

:thinking: didnt really help at all as it was just a promo vid of lightroom, even the help tab on lightroom gives a list of video tutorials but even they just jump straight in at library tutorials:bang: im looking for a COMPLETE NEWBIE tutorial that shows me how to open the thing properly from the VERY begining i just cant seem to find any anywhere despite searching youtube, here and google all just assume people already know what to do and i dont

very confusing :thinking:
 
When I started off with Lightroom 1 I used the videos on the Adobe site, they explained the process of importing and organising your files.

My advice is to take a step back and think how you want your photos organised, both within Lightroom and on your hard drive and how you are going to handle images that need to go to Photoshop etc, as it is a lot easier to get it right to start with.

FWIW, all of my image files go into Lightroom, through the import dialogue and I let Lightroom sort out the file structure and back up the files to an external drive.

Martin Evening's book is well worth a read (and is a bit of a bargain at £15).
 
Look at the links on the left. There are several tutorial videos to go through.
 
The 15 basic videos on Adobe TV the importing video will help with what I said in my previous post.
