... and cant find a way to display/preview the subject on the LCD before I take the pic. Is this the way its supposed to be? I dont recall seeing this mentioned in any reviews, or is it the same on all DSLR's? Have to admit, its a bit tiresome (or lazy of me?) having to use the viewfinder all the time...

You can't preview on the LCD, only review. Sorry, you've gotta look through the viewfinder

Haha, I thought the same thing when I got my D50! :p

cheers for that, guess its just me getting lazy after using a digi compact for so long... mind you it did eat the batteries, when using preview.

LOL. Yep that's the way it's supposed to be. Holding the camera out at arms length is an awful way to hold a camera, not very stable at all, and responsible for a lot of blurry shots. ;)

You'll soon get used to what is a far superior way of taking shots. :)

Just got an image in my mind of you with your 500 mm L held at arms length CT :D

I know, I know ... I used to have a couple of bagfuls of Nikon 35mm bodies & lenses till I lost interest, then bought a compact Olympus digi (the ones that look like a small slr) and to be honest I like taking shots from slightly different angles, and like the fact I could see the scene as well as the image I was taking, and be able to grab shots without being too noticeable... oh crap, what have I done???

Only joking, starting to get the buzz from using an slr again, will be even better when Jessops call to say they've got the black version in for me (they let me take their last 'exclusive to jessops' silver one while they order me a black one)
