Can anyone help, I'[m vocering an event this weekend which requires a logo to be placed on each image. The trouble I have is that the logo is from a third party who has sent a jpg image which is the black logo sitting on white background.

Is there anyway to strip the black logo from the white background so that I can then play with the opacity which is what was expected?

I have asked for a transparent logo but could take a while to come through and would like to start editing asap.

Cheers
Ryan

Try the 'Magic Eraser Tool' in photoshop.....just click on the white background.

Thanks Neil, did a google and found it :)

Didn't google as thought it would be difficult but surprisingly easy :)

Set the layer the logo is on to 'darken', 'multiply' or 'colour burn'. Any one will only show the black.

An easier way is to convert the image to PNG format after using the magic extractor tool to extract the logo from the background.

I used the magic wand tool to select the black, copy it and paste it into a new file with a transparent background :)

Does it have jagged edges now? Try it out on a few photos.

The layer blending mode is the easiest solution IMHO (depending on how you are applying the logo to the photos - I assume Photoshop?).

It's 98% will google layer blending tomorrow as would rather it was 100%

Just tested it, it's actually 'multiply' that works.

+1 for layer blending. Why bother degrading the logo with the dumb assed magic eraser. Seriously.... any photoshop tool with "magic" in front of it is simply not... it's nearly always ****.

Well excuse me for suggesting the 'dumb assed' magic eraser......

Firefire, the magic wand worked and was exceptionally easy to use which is what I was after so thank you.
