The first footballer I knew the name of ........when, as a kid I would play footie with mates, I would shout as I attempted a goal his last name, I recently shouted his name as I kicked a ball in the playground while dropping off my lad....brought back some memories and then I come home from the school run and BBC N24 reported his untimely passing.

His words, "Football gave me everything, Tobacco almost took it all away" sadly his life is over and it seems prematurely too.

Way back in 1980ish myself and a mate did the interrail thing round Europe, back then it was common for guesthouse owners to tout for business at railway stations. Arriving at Amsterdam we got speaking to a guy and went to stay the night at at his place. It turned out he was (one of) Cruyff's uncles and the house was full of memorabilia, stuff he'd collected and been given by his nephew, to say that he was a fan would have been putting it mildly.
