Nice little piece on Joel Meyerowitz in the Observer today

I was particularly tickled by this

The Observer said:
I ask Meyerowitz about the combative, confrontational style of street photography espoused by the likes of fellow New Yorker Bruce Gilden, and he grows visibly angry for the only time in our conversation. "He's a ****ing bully. I despise the work, I despise the attitude, he's an aggressive bully and all the pictures look alike because he only has one idea – 'I'm gonna embarrass you, I'm going to humiliate you.' I'm sorry, but no."

:)

Can't say I agree... Lots of Gilden's work is clearly with the co-operation of the people being shot. As for the ones where that doesn't apply... how can you bully someone who doesn't know they're being bullied?

Its just his opinion
I've loved gildens work for a while now, also quite like joels.
What's wrong with a bit of confrontation?

Nothing IMO. Some photos have exploited people far more than Gilden's and are still to this day applauded for being great pieces of work.
